—Marshall

Marshall B. Mathers III, is the titular main protagonist of Shady, along with Slim Shady.

History/Pre-Shady

Childhood

Marshall was born on October 17, 1972, to a single mother, Debbie Mathers and an absent father. Growing up Marshall was subjected to constant traumatizing physical and emotional abuse by his Mother, her torment and paranoia caused a huge impact Marshall and his personality. Marshall can be characterized early on as shy and bashful. Believing he had multiple mental sicknesses, he had few to no close friends, keeping almost entirely to himself and was treated like an outcast at each new school he entered from Missouri to Detroit. Marshall recalls many times throughout the events of Shady that he was beat up frequently and brutally by many kids in school. The overwhelming trauma of his childhood is what eventually led to his mind fragmenting into multiple identities, much to the obliviousness of himself.

Teenage Years

In High school, Marshall became good friends with fellow student, the delinquent Slim Shady. Unlike himself Shady was violent, abrasive and wasn't afraid of fighting anyone who would get in his way. Although at first opposing, the two eventually bonded over their shared experience of childhood abuse and trauma. Since then Shady pledged to watch over Marshall and keep him safe from any bullies who would get in his way. At the time Shady was also good friends with Kimberly Scott. A fellow classmate that Marshall had a crush on.

Eventually the two had their lives changed forever after one fateful night at a classmate, Dave's house party. While at the house party Marshall finally introduced himself to Kim. Although Marshall was challenged by a bully, he was crafty enough to steal the bully's car keys. Trying to impress Kim, Marshall convinced her to join him for a joyride in the bully's car. The two slowly began to bond after a night full of petty crimes and danger of getting caught. Marshall dropped Kim off safety but unfortunately for him his fun night ended after accidentally hitting, infamous drug dealer, Blondie Black. Furious, and confused from the trauma of being hit Blondie prepared to shoot Marshall confusing him and Shady. Luckily, for him Shady happened to be in the area and jumped in, taking the bullet for Marshall and saving him from the impact. After Blondie's death at the hands of Susan, the group is found by a young gangbanger, sent to kill the man, Royce Da 5' 9. Royce suggests that the three become independent gangbangers like him and that if they're interested he could connect them with some of his friends.

Early 20s

After their first killing, Marshall and Slim Shady dropped out of school to focus on careers as independent mercenaries fighting and killing various men on behalf of various local gangs. During the time, Marshall remembers Shady being notably more popular and garnering significantly more notoriety in the criminal underworld. After climbing the food chain for some time Marshall became increasingly unsure of the path him and Slim Shady were taking. His mind was eventually solidified after the suicide of Stanley Mitchel, a Slim Shady fanatic trying to live up to some the legends and myths created about them. Hearing that Stanley in his pursuits killed his fiancé, Marshall officially decides to part ways with Shady and give up his life of crime for one of poverty but moral integrity. After the falling out between the two parties Marshall vows to never speak to him again. Eventually Marshall ends up marrying Kim and having a child, Hailie with her. Although the two are happy for a short while Kim eventually grows tired of Marshall's new, boring moral outlook on life and divorces him.

Shady

Late 30s (Chapter 1)

Throughout the next few years Marshall was able to live a relatively normal and quiet life, co-parenting Hailie with Kim and seeing a therapist, Dr. Dre. However Marshall's perception of everything is challenged one night when he receives a cryptic letter from a man with the initials M.M. threatening to kill him. After receiving the letter Marshall begins to experience a vivid nightmare where he violently murders Kim in her house as well as visions of Stanley drowning to death.

A few days after the nightmares Marshall is once again re-united with Slim Shady. Shady is able to use the leverage of having previously saved his life to let him, Susan and Ken stay at Marshall's house while on the run from the police. Despite his objections the Shady crew get wind of the mysterious letters and begin to track down it's source of Marshall's behalf as a thanks for his help.
